In 1995, after 15 years in North Carolina, Jim Haden and George Stanziale chose to re-position the planning and landscape architectural practice they had built as principals and branch office managers for Edward D. Stone Jr. and Associates (EDSA), an internationally known firm. They acquired the Charlotte and Durham offices of EDSA and refocused the efforts of the staff towards servicing domestic clients with projects predominately in the southeastern United States.
The transition included retention of the existing client base, as well as the talented, experienced staff members, some of whom have worked together for nearly 16 years. The firm has been able to retain its large firm resources and design capabilities, while offering personal and highly responsive service with competitive fees.
Since its inception in the fall of 1995, HadenStanziale has nearly tripled in size and has opened an office in Wilmington, North Carolina. In 1999, the firm received an Honor Award from the NCASLA for The Mecklenburg County Greenway Master Plan and was named "Small Business of the Year" by the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, GTE and Triangle Bank.
Jim Haden and George Stanziale have worked together since 1977 on projects throughout the nation ranging from master planned communities to parks and recreation to downtown and corridor redevelopment plans. Between the two of them, our founders have had significant involvement in over 25 projects which have received regional and national awards.
Today, they continue to produce award-winning projects while leading a steadily growing firm. In addition to ongoing project involvement and design leadership, Jim focuses on firm-wide marketing, and George focuses on corporate management. Their different roles complement each other and allow for well-balanced leadership.
